Happy New Year and Sci Fi Fantasy in 2023

It’s great to be back outside again.

Last year when beaches finally opened, gatherings allowed, and restrictions lifted, I couldn’t help but smile. Now businesses have removed sinks from their storefronts and I can’t even remember when last I wore that damn mask.

And you know what else is great – my novel is finished. As in 100% ready to be released, for serval months now, cover and all.

I’m planning a cover reveal and book launch so look out for more on that soon, but in the meantime I’d like to share my top choices for sci fi fantasy I recommend you check out in 2023.

Books

Wool by Hugh Howey

This writer needs something to read. Unfortunately I need to focus on my social presence this year so reading will have to be light.

I checked out an interesting sci fi trilogy last year called the Passage so I’m going to continue that sci fi trend with Dragon’s Egg and Starquake. Also Wool, a post-apocalyptic story about humans living in silos. Binti, and if time allows I’ll end with All Systems Red. Pick one and let’s read together.

TV Series

HBO’s the Last of Us

Last year introduced awesome hits like LOTR: the Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, and Andor (finally a modern Star Wars done right). Throw in anime like Attack on Titan season part final (or something), Vinland Saga, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War, TV has never been better.

While we won’t get another LOTR or House of the Dragon until 2024, there’s still the Witcher season 3 (goodbye Henry Cavill), Loki season 2, and HBO’s adaptation of the videogame the Last of Us. As for anime, look out for more Bleach, Attack on Titan season part final (or something), Vinland Saga season 2, a Trigun reboot called Trigun Stampede, Nier: Automata ver1.1a, and interestingly a continuation of that old X-Men Saturday morning cartoon we all loved as children called X-Men 97.

Movies

Sony Pictures’s Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse

The current state of Tv series has set the bar extremely high for movies, and I usually don’t expect them to be good anymore. But Dune part 2 looks pretty good, along with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Miles Morales returns in Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. DC is still trying with the Flash so we’ll see.

And a Super Mario Bros. movie, of all things, premieres this year, and is endorsed by Nintendo so hopefully this time it’ll actually be good (not that the 1993 version wasn’t any good haha)

Games

Starfield by Bethesda

Starfield!

I’m super excited about this game finally releasing this year, the primary reason why I’m switching from a PS4 to an Xbox Series X (unless Starfield gets a bad review). This sci fi game about getting into trouble all across the galaxy will probably take me months to play so I’m reserving my limited game time just for this.

.

So that’s it for today. Wishing you a happy and prosperous new year. Let me know if you plan on checking out anything I’ve mentioned, or whatever new that you are most excited about this year.
