The First Law Triology by Joe Abercrombie

You can tell by my reviews of Joe Abercrumbie’s the First Law Trilogy over at My Books Escape that I’m a big fan of these books.

The story is gripping, the characters are memorable, and the writing is a joy to read.

One of the things that I consider great about this trilogy is the dialogue.

Throughout the story, the characters say things that either makes you think or keep you on the edge of your seat.

So what are the greatest words said?

Men-at-Arms

Admit it!

You love fantasy swords so massive they seem impossible to wield, and so mystical they have their own life story.

But these swords are pure fantasy, right? Any real version is just a disappointing mockup of cheap plastic, right?

Well that’s what I thought until I came across Men-at-Arms, a reality show about awesome guys creating the awesome swords we love – out of actual reinforced steel.

Science Fiction Fantasy at E3 2015

Electronic Entertainment Expoo

Being someone who loved video games growing up, and still wishing I had time to play them now, I like to keep track of the latest in the industry. And the best place for this is the annual convention known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 for short.

Ever heard of it?

E3 is where all the video game giants gather to show what they got coming up for the next couple years. The main competitors are Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, with 3rd party competitors such as Ubisoft, Square Enix, and EA filling the gaps.

While there’re many different types of games on display, I like seeing those in my favourite genre: science fiction fantasy.

Even though the average logical adult dismisses them as unrealistic, there was a time people swore they exist.

I’ve got a real love hate relationship for Game of Thrones.

I hate the vast amounts of politics, the incest, the deaths of so many characters. But ultimately my love for sword fights and castles and mystical creatures keeps me coming back for more.

There’s another element of Game of Thrones that keeps me hooked. Great dialogue.

Stealer of Flesh by William King (2012)

I’m a big fan of William King.

I love the Gotrek and Felix series so I’m always willing to read anything he writes.

I’ve been reading about the Kormak series on his website for a while now, but with an extensive library of books on my kindle that I’ve never read, and a long to-read list on Goodreads, I’ve always been reluctant to purchase it.

Why buy something now if I don’t intend to read it yet, right?

But when I found out that the 1st book of the Kormak series, Stealer of Flesh, was free on Amazon, naturally I jumped right on it.

Because he’s my favorite author, and because it was free, I moved it up on my to-read list (free has powerful effects) and finally got around to reading it.
